Character Name: Danielle ‘Dani’ Phantom
Canon: Danny Phantom
Canon-Point: Post D-Stabilized
Age: Physically 12 going on 13. Real age is less than a year.
History: http://dannyphantom.wikia.com/wiki/Dani_Phantom
Personality: At first glance, Dani would seem to be a stereotypical tomboy girl. She’s spirited, loves to play games and pranks, and can be a bit of a brat. More often than not, other people will see her grinning and having fun. Had her life been normal, this would be the kind of girl she probably would have been. Unfortunately, Dani does not have a normal life and with continued interaction, this becomes more and more obvious.
Dani was taught to lie. While she’s not a grand weaver of tall tales, she knows how to appear like a normal enough child that it’s not immediately obvious she isn’t. More often than not, if she needs to lie, she’ll smile and act like everything is fine. Because if she’s smiling, nothing can be wrong. She did this when earning Danny’s trust and she did this in all future interactions both to keep people from noticing her and to not burden others. She didn’t want to be noticed because she was a melting half ghost girl, so it’d be bad if people called CPS on her, but this was mostly to strangers. To the people she knew, she would downplay her problems. She only asked for help when she had no other options. She didn’t want to be a burden. She still feels guilt for almost getting Danny killed, so she felt she shouldn’t cause him more problems unless she absolutely had to.
That is not to say all her cheer is lies. It’s just Dani hasn’t had much opportunity to be a normal kid. She takes every opportunity she can though. She doesn’t like dwelling on the negative if she can avoid it and is extremely optimistic despite her circumstances. Such she entertained the idea Vlad might have been willing to save her, though she had some serious doubts. She’s also rather forgiving because of it. She forgave Valerie after her betrayal and then subsequent helping save her life.
And due to those circumstances and the fact she’s only had any sort of meaningful interactions with three people, Dani has a strange habit of ping ponging between paranoia and trust. The fact is, Dani WANTS to trust people. She wants to continue to believe in the best of them and assumes that, in their heart of hearts, people are good. She also knows this isn’t always true despite her desires. She knows if she’s found out, it’d be dangerous, and she knows how evil people can be. After all, Vlad called her daughter and then turned around and called her a tool. She’s been used. Valerie also did the same, making her think Valerie would be on her side and stabbing her in the back. Dani knows people will lie and manipulate her, so she shouldn’t just trust them. But then there’s her desire to trust anyway. With her limited meaningful interaction with people, she doesn’t really know how to do it halfway. Either its full trust or paranoia and fear. Though she does realize someone can change. Valerie did use her, but then Valerie came and save her. So she’s still trying to figure out how to handle trust and paranoia. She’s working on it now that death isn’t always a looming threat. Though this isn’t helped by the fact Dani just doesn’t know a lot due to her strange circumstances and it was luck that she can at least act with the mental maturity of her physical age.
Dani is also a very good person, but she’s also open to the grey more than might be expected of a one/twelve year old superhero. She knows stealing is wrong, but she had to steal to survive. She feels guilty and hates to do it, but she had to do what she had to survive. She also realized she did have a stint as a villain since Vlad had tricked her into going against Danny. She realizes misunderstandings are a thing that happen. Sometimes their hands are forced. This understanding allows her to be forgiving and hopeful in people, even after she’s been hurt. Danny did that for her and he is the one to emulate. While she does have a temper and loves to punch out the lights of people who make her mad, she doesn’t really hold grudges. She was more sad and afraid of Vlad then angry until something happened right then to invoke anger. Such as hurting her or finding out he was using Valerie like he used her. Still, Dani is someone who wants to protect others. She defended Danny when she realized he wasn’t the enemy and even though Valerie had scared her, she still went to save her when she would have been crushed. She’d rather go the lawful route than any underhanded things when possible.
Another one of Dani’s strongest traits is loyalty. Danny kept trying to convince Dani that Vlad was using her, but she ignored him until Vlad himself slipped up and made it obvious that Danny was telling the truth. As loyal as she is, she is still a little girl and her loyalty comes at the price of love and affection. She’s willing to kidnap someone she knows isn’t bad for love, but she isn’t willing to die without it. Still, even after she rejected Vlad, she still holds some feelings for him. He was still her father and she loves too much to ever let that go. She’d also make life harder for herself to avoid troubling Danny. It would have been smarter to stay with him until she was fixed, but to do so would mean outing him to his parents and she refused to do that. She doesn’t want to cause problems for him, but she does trust him. When she was melting and couldn’t do anything, she believed he could save her and knew he would help if she asked. She trusts Danny more than anyone else for all the effort he put into helping her.
She is also very strong willed. She doesn’t want to die and she literally willed her body to hold together at several different points. When push comes to shove, even if she’s terrified, she will stand her ground and she won’t be broken.
Mostly though, Dani is just a little girl. A little girl whose been hurt by her family and really has nowhere viable to go. She’s lonely and sad, but she keeps holding onto hope and continues to believe in the better things of the world. She wants to help protect the world and find her happiness, no matter how hard things get.
Abilities/Powers:
As a halfa, she has an assortment of ghost abilities.
Transformation. Dani can change from human to ghost and back again. She can use some of her powers while human, though they’re always weaker and there’s no physical enhancements. Her ghost form allows her to use the full extent of her powers and has physical enhancements, being stronger, faster, and has a higher endurance. As well as being physically made of ecto instead of flesh and bones.
She can hover and fly over a hundred miles an hour while in ghost form.
She can go intangible and invisible. She has fine tune control, where she only changes parts of her body or all of it.
Ectoblasts. She can use weak blasts or charge for stronger blasts and can send them out of either her hands or feet. She can also pull the energy back in her body. This is stronger against spirit things. Against humans, it’s more just a concussive force instead of a burning energy type thing.
Presumably she could make ghost barriers, but she’ll need to figure those out first, but it’s a pretty basic power. They’re just a solid wall of ecto.
Overshadowing. She can take over people’s bodies. She can’t read their minds though. Usually the person being overshadowed will not be aware this happened without noticing time lapses or location changes, though if she tries to force them into something they REALLY don’t want to do, they can start to become aware enough to fight her possession. Other factors can help people fight as well, such as particularly strong wills, those with powers, etc. She can mimic voices, but the person’s eyes will change to green while she’s possessing them.
She has a Ghost Sense. If a ghost or spirit is nearby, she will shiver and gasp out a blue wisp of air, though it can be mistaken for just seeing her breathe.
The Ghost Sense is a precursor for ice abilities for Danny, so presumably this applies to Dani as well. Ice is slowly building up in her core and eventually the ice will probably start manifesting beyond her control if someone doesn’t notice it before hand and helps her head it off.
Dani is very good at fine tune control of her energy for the abilities she knows to use. Partially from Vlad’s training and a bit part of her efforts to not melt. She doesn’t use anymore energy for her powers than she absolutely has to.
She’s gotten good at quick get aways, with and without ghost powers. She’s good at climbing. She’s also gotten decent on stealing, though she still has to rely on ghost powers a lot. She knows a lot of street gambling games and is good at cheating.
Dani picked up a few random skills like cleaning and sewing and how to pick fruits and vegetables from random jobs she managed to get people to pay her for. She's passable.
She’s got a surprisingly good grasp on biology and ghost mythology. She had months trying to fix herself before going back to Danny, so a lot of time was spent in libraries trying to find something she could do on her own. She’s also generally a quick learner, getting far in her training with Vlad in only a few weeks and most likely sharing this trait with Danny.
As mentioned before, she lies a lot. So she’s pretty decent at it.
Items: Her clothes and pocket lint. That’s it.
